Subaru Solterra EV looks even better with STI parts
Subaru Solterra EV STI Concept charges into 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon

Last year, Subaru launched their very first electric vehicle – the Solterra. Like the GR 86 and the BRZ, the EV crossover was co-developed with Toyota. It’s also the reason why the Solterra looks like a slightly redesigned version of the bZ4X. But if you don’t want people to mistake your Solterra for a bZ4X, STI has you covered.

Subaru’s in-house tuning division has revealed the Solterra STI Concept at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon alongside the STI E-RA Concept. The automaker didn’t reveal any details about the EV crossover, but it does sport a lot of cherry red bits all around. By the looks of it, it seems the STI upgrades to the Solterra are cosmetic only.
Compared to the standard Solterra, the STI Concept comes with a front lip, side skirts, and a rear bumper extension. A rear wing and trunk spoiler were also added to give the EV crossover more aggression. Completing the STI makeover are the new wheels with matching pink accents on one spoke.

Interestingly, it looks like STI didn’t mess with the ride or lower the Solterra to make it look more aggressive. There are no photos of the interior. But if STI did give it a makeover, expect to see several STI-badged items and possibly even a sports steering wheel in place.
As mentioned earlier, the changes appear to be aesthetic only. But for reference, the Solterra is powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, that produce a combined output of 160kW or 215 horsepower. It’s paired with a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, allowing it to travel up to 460 km on a single charge.

While the upgrades do look cool, we wonder if STI will end up tuning the EV powertrain of the Solterra in the future. The STI E-RA concept produces over 1000 horsepower, and we hope that tech makes its way to Subaru’s future performance vehicles.
