Subaru production on pause following workplace tragedy

In any kind of workplace, corporations make it paramount to put in safety measures, health regulations, and internal company policies to reduce untoward incidents and keep workers out of harm’s way. But despite all those efforts, accidents can still happen.

Regrettably, a fatal accident happened at the Subaru Yajima factory in Gunma, Japan. A 60-year-old crane operator was crushed to death after one of the 25-ton molds he was moving collapsed and pinned him to another mold. The operator, who had 35 years of experience working for Subaru, died of suffocation based on the autopsy.

The Yajima factory is one of Subaru’s main production hubs in Japan. It is here where models like the Crosstrek, Forester, Impreza, and Outback are being assembled.

As a result of the accident, the Japanese manufacturer has decided to halt operations at the Yajima factory and Subaru’s other two factories, affecting the production of nearly all the brand’s models.

Subaru has begun conducting safety checks on all three factories, while an investigation for the reason behind the accident is also underway. As of now, Subaru has not announced when will production resume.
