Subaru brings back tS variant for 2024 BRZ

When Motor Image Pilipinas (MIP) launched the all-new Subaru WRX and WRX Wagon last year, the automaker revealed the CVT and M/T (WRX only) versions of both vehicles. What we weren't expecting, however, is the fact that MIP also brought the tS versions.

Unlike your regular WRX and WRX Wagon, the tS variants come with extra goodies like electronically-controlled dampers, selectable drive modes, a 10-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system, an 8-channel amplifier, a power tailgate, and chrome accents on the exterior. They're pricier than the non-tS variants but if you want the additional features, you have to pony up the extra cash for it.

Strangely though, the all-new BRZ sports coupe has yet to be offered with the high-performance tS variant ever since it was first launched. However, we might not need to wait long as Subaru has just revealed the 2024 BRZ tS at Subiefest California.

Serving as the newest trim in the BRZ lineup in the US, the tS version gets suspension and chassis upgrades, new alloy wheels wrapped in grippier tires, and for the first time, EyeSight Driver Assist for the 6-speed manual gearbox. That's right, Subaru's suite of intelligent driver aids can now be specified with a manual transmission.

Starting with the hardware upgrades first, the BRZ tS comes with Brembo brakes that consist of gold-painted 2-piston rear calipers, 4-piston front calipers, and larger pads/rotors. Subaru claims that the Brembo package improves stopping power, fade resistance, and a better pedal feel. The sports coupe also comes with 18-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires for extra grip and quicker turn-in maneuvers.

Last but not least, this particular BRZ is equipped with STI-tuned front and rear Hitachi® dampers to maximize its lightweight, ultra-low center of gravity and precision handling. This also translates to better control and stability while driving on the limit.

As mentioned earlier, the BRZ tS is equipped with EyeSight that's tailored for the 6-speed manual gearbox. This will allow drivers to enjoy rowing on their own while also having peace of mind on the open road. Like the automatic variant, the EyeSight for the BRZ tS manual gets adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure with sway warning, and lead vehicle start alert. What's even better is that all 2024 Subaru BRZ models equipped with a manual transmission will include EyeSight as standard equipment.

With the US the first to get the upgraded Subaru BRZ tS, other markets will likely follow in the future, including the Philippines. Perhaps the only question now is, when will it be arriving and how much will it cost?
