SPIED: Mercedes-Benz "baby" G-Class seen for the first time
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class will soon be joined by its smaller sibling, the "g"

Remember when Mercedes-Benz confirmed last year that there would be a “baby” version of its iconic G-Class? Well, our spies managed to spot a camouflaged prototype being driven in Europe recently, and it looks just like a mini-me version of the body-on-frame SUV.
Based on what our spies were able to capture, the camouflaged prototype has a unique livery that's covered in small “g”s. Unlike the G-Class, which uses an uppercase, the smaller version will use a lowercase to distinguish itself from the G-Class model.

Despite the camo livery hiding most of the exterior design, it's quite clear that it was inspired by the G-Class's boxy exterior. From the round headlights to the boxy roofline, as well as the swing-out tailgate in the back, everything points to a pint-sized version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
However, we did notice that instead of a spare tire carrier in the back, the baby G-Class appears to have an extra cargo area on the tailgate. We're not entirely sure as to why they opted for this, but it could have been done to pass stricter emission regulations. After all, a heavier vehicle produces more carbon emissions.

Other details about the upcoming Mercedes-Benz g-Class remain a mystery. However, the upcoming crossover SUV will most likely have a unibody chassis that's paired with a 1.5L turbocharged inline-four that's shared with the CLA or GLA models.

The g-Class is expected to be launched sometime in 2027, which means Mercedes-Benz still has plenty of time to test and iron out any issues.
