SPIED: Lamborghini testing plug-in hybrid Urus

We already know that Lamborghini will join the electrification bandwagon very soon. In fact, the House of The Raging Bull already announced that starting in 2024, all of its vehicles will be electrified. The company even revealed two special one-off vehicles as a send-off to its V12 era called Invencible and Autentica.

With Lamborghini heading towards an electrified future, the brand is wasting no time testing its new hybrid powertrains. And the first electrified Raging Bull could come in the form of the brand’s most popular vehicle to date, the Urus.

Just recently, spy photographers were able to capture photos of the supposed Urus plug-in hybrid (PHEV) being tested near the Arctic Circle. It’s rumored to be revealed sometime later this year and will apparently combine a twin-turbo engine and an electric motor. More importantly, it will supposedly share components with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid.

Despite the camouflage livery hiding most of the PHEV’s exterior, it’s quite apparent the front end of this particular Urus has some unique changes. Not only does it get what looks like a new pair of LED headlights, but it also comes with a new front bumper that appears to mimic the one found in the Urus S. There also appears to be a rear bumper but that could just be the livery playing a trick in our eyes. Other noticeable exterior changes include a spoiler atop the tailgate and a quad exhaust system.

The exact details of the Urus PHEV’s powertrain are still a mystery. But as mentioned earlier, it’s being heavily implied that it will share its components with the Cayenne. That means we could expect it to come with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor that’s powered by a 17.9-kWh battery pack.

In the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, the powertrain already makes an impressive 680 PS and 900 Nm of torque. This allows the luxury SUV to go from 0 - 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 295 km/h. As for the Urus PHEV, it might produce well over 700 PS and more than 900 Nm of pulling power.

With the Urus S and Urus Performante already making 666 PS and 850 Nm of torque, the plug-in hybrid version could become the most powerful version while also emitting fewer emissions thanks to electrification. But until Lamborghini actually makes it official, we can only hope that the automaker reveals more information soon.
