SPIED: Here's your first look at BMW M3 EV

It’s no secret that BMW is working on an all-electric version of the M3. As early as last year, BMW M CEO Frank van Meel shared that the next-generation M3 will be offered in both ICE and EV variants, with the latter reportedly set to generate 1,300 PS. Should it be true, then that will make the all-electric M3 the most powerful production BMW to date.

We already saw what the all-electric M3 could look like via the BMW Vision Driving Experience they released earlier this year. But since it serves as a rolling test rig for the brand’s new electric drivetrain and software systems, it still looks like the Neue Klasse concept. Fortunately, our spy photographers managed to get pictures of what could be the production version of the BMW M3 EV.

Based on what our spies captured, the M3 EV will likely be based on the next-generation 3 Series and will see a growth spurt. Despite the camo livery, it’s quite clear that the all-new 3 Series and the M3 EV will be bigger in size. Design-wise, the M3 EV is fitted with what looks to be a wide body kit and distinct bumpers that give it a more aerodynamic advantage.

Like the current M3, the M3 EV will most likely come with massive dual kidney grilles, although BMW has yet to remove the false panels. Also worth mentioning are what appear to be redesigned LED headlights, a more distinct Hofmeister kink, and larger doors.

Based on previous reports, the M3 EV will be powered by a quad motor system. That’s right, instead of just two motors powering each axle, the M3 EV will supposedly have an electric motor powering each wheel, which translates to more power on tap, as well as improved AWD capability. The most powerful version will reportedly generate up to 1360 PS, although the base model will reportedly have around 700 PS.

The ICE version of the all-new M3 has yet to be spotted, but since BMW is already busy testing the EV variant, perhaps BMW will first reveal the M3 EV, then follow it up with the 3 Series and eventually the M3. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that BMW holds the big reveal before the end of the year.
