SPIED: All-new Porsche 911 GT2 RS is lean, mean, and electrified

Our spy photographers have been busy of late as they recently spotted a Porsche being put through the Green Hell that is the Nurburgring. What’s different, however, is the fact that the Stuttgart-based automaker appears to be testing a new high-performance version of the 911.

While some might say the 911 Turbo already delivers more than enough performance, people tend to forget that Porsche also has the 911 GT2 RS. Essentially a 911 Turbo on steroids, the GT2 RS packs more punch and is a track-focused weapon that can be driven on public roads.

Now, Porsche has been recently spotted testing a prototype version of the new 911 GT2 RS, and boy, does it look lean and mean. Apart from the massive wing that immediately sticks out, the new (prototype) 911 GT2 RS also comes with wide fenders that highlight the huge tires that give the sports car better grip. It also has vented fenders at the front, which hint that the latest 911 GT2 RS will come with improved cooling and aerodynamics.

It also has what looks to be canards on the roof and a wide body kit that further accentuates the 911 GT2 RS’ wider stance. It also has more pronounced bumpers and dual exhausts, which could indicate it will crank out more horsepower and torque.

Speaking of horsepower, the upcoming 911 GT2 RS will reportedly benefit from a hybrid system. Not too long ago, Porsche introduced the 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid, which features an electrified 3.6L turbocharged flat-six engine that produces 541 HP and 610 Nm of torque. It’s no 911 Turbo, but it comes (very) close.

The latest 911 GT2 RS is expected to get a hybrid system as well and could put out well over 850 HP. In comparison, the last 911 GT2 RS already puts out nearly 700 HP from its 3.8L twin-turbo flat-six.

With Porsche already busy with the next 911 GT2 RS in the Nurburgring, we won’t be surprised if the automaker plans to reveal it later this year.
