Toyota Motor Philippines launches 2022 Fortuner and Hilux GR Sport models

During the second leg of the 2021 Vios Cup, Toyota Motor Philippines gave us an early preview of the upcoming Fortuner GR Sport and Hilux GR Sport. At the time, TMP was still quiet about the upgrades over the standard Fortuner and Hilux, but they did very much resemble the models offered in Thailand. After a week, all has been revealed as Toyota officially launched the 2022 Fortuner GR Sport and the 2022 Hilux GR Sport.

Thanks to the preview, we already have a good idea of what the two models look like. Both models look a lot more aggressive with the addition of the GR Sport bits. The Fortuner comes with a redesigned front and rear bumper, fog lamp garnish, body-color arches, and even a two-tone rear spoiler. Completing the exterior makeover are a new set of 18-inch wheels.

As for the Hilux, Toyota fitted a new mesh grille with the word TOYOTA spread across, similar to the Land Cruiser GR Sport. It’s matched by a new bumper, body-color over-fenders, and a gloss black sports bar. A new set of 18-inch wheels, similar to the Fortuner GR Sport, are fitted.

Inside, the cabin has been given a sporty makeover to match the exterior. Red, black, and smoke silver metallic accents line the cabin. It’s matched with a GR Sport steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and sport-type front seats that use a mix of leather and suede and are power-adjustable. On the Fortuner, there are matte carbon trims on the center cluster, while the Hilux GR Sport now comes with paddle shifters.

A first for the Hilux GR Sport is the Panoramic View Monitor as indicated by the front camera. Unfortunately, no Toyota Safety Sense yet. The suite of safety systems is standard on the Fortuner GR Sport.

The new GR Sport models aren’t all about looks. Toyota fit new GR brake calipers (front only for Hilux GR-S, front and rear for Fortuner GR-S) and new sport-tuned monotube dampers on both models, which they say offer "a more stable, comfortable ride, and race-like steering feel".

The 2022 Fortuner GR Sport retails for PHP 2,509,000 for either White Pearl and Attitude Black Mica colors.
Meanwhile, the 2022 Hilux GR Sport starts at PHP 1,985,000 for Super White and Attitude Black Mica and an additional PHP 20,000 for Emotional Red.
