Should Suzuki PH offer the 2022 Baleno?

If you wanted a hatchback from Suzuki Philippines, there are only three models to choose from – the S-Presso, the Celerio, and the Swift. Apart from the S-Presso, which was launched in 2020, the Celerio and the Swift are relatively older models. With that, should Suzuki introduce a newer hatchback into the country like the recently launched 2022 Baleno?

Maruti Suzuki has introduced the all-new Baleno in India. Now on its second generation, the hatchback adopts the brand’s latest design cues, making it look more upscale as compared to before. The new Baleno measures 3990mm long, 1745mm wide, and 1500mm tall with a 2,520mm wheelbase, making it slightly bigger than the Swift.

In terms of design, the front end features a large grille and large LED headlights that slightly make the hatchback look very aggressive. At the rear, there are C-shaped taillights that extend into the rear tailgate. It’s also connected by a trim piece found underneath the rear window. Depending on the variant, the hatchback rides on 16-inch wheels as standard.

Step inside, and it’s quite a premium too. Compared to the previous model, the dashboard has been changed with a large touchscreen infotainment system front and center. Depending on the model, it's available in either 7- or 9-inches. The top-spec variant even comes with an Arkamys sound system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 360-degree camera, heads-up display, and cruise control.

The 2022 Baleno is powered by the same engine as its predecessor – a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated inline-four that produces 90 PS and 113 Nm of torque. The two transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission).

There’s no word yet whether the new Baleno will be offered by Suzuki Philippines in the future. However, the automaker already sources the S-Presso and Jimny from India. Even the all-new Celerio will reportedly now come from Maruti according to an anonymous source. That said, maybe they could expand the line with the larger Baleno.
