Save the date: Next-gen Ford Mustang to be launched Sept 14

It’s been nearly 8 years since the sixth-generation Ford Mustang made its way to ASEAN via the 2014 Thailand International Motor Expo. The regional launch signaled its eventual arrival in the Philippines several months later when it was launched in April 2015.

Since then, the pony car has received a facelift in 2018 (including a convertible version) but other than that, it has mostly stayed the same. But come September 14, 2022, the Mustang will get a new lease on life.

Ford has just announced they will be holding the global debut of the seventh-generation Mustang next month at the 2022 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), AKA the Detroit Auto Show. Ford welcomes Mustang owners and fans to participate in what they call “The Stampede” which will see the official launch of the all-new pony car.

“Mustang is the world’s best-selling sports car because there’s one for everyone – from an EcoBoost convertible to 5.0-liter V8 GT fastback coupe. Now it’s time for a new stampede of owners, fans, and employees to welcome the next chapter in Mustang’s legacy – the seventh generation, which will be our best yet,” said Jim Farley, president, and CEO of Ford.

At the very starting point of Woodward Avenue, America’s first paved road begins, Mustang fans and enthusiasts are invited to congregate at Hart Plaza for the debut of the seventh-generation Mustang. Rod Alberts, Executive Director of NAIAS, said they are proud to support Ford for the launching of the all-new pony car.

“When we conceived the idea of an indoor-outdoor Detroit Auto Show, The Stampede was the kind of event we hoped and believed was possible. We are proud to support Ford with what will be an absolutely iconic milestone, celebrating the heritage and future of the Mustang, as well as the global mobility industry, right here in Detroit,” shared Alberts.

Detail and specifications about the all-new Mustang are not yet available. But based on previous leaks and spy shots, the pony car will continue to have a muscular exterior. Ford is not yet ready to remove the camouflage, but it looks like the all-new Mustang will have wider LED headlights, a larger front grille, and what appear to be a redesigned rear end.

As for the interior, the all-new Mustang could become available with a digital instrument cluster and a larger touchscreen infotainment system screen complete with SYNC 4A. Other notable features present inside the pony car include what appears to be a new steering wheel, restyled aircon vents, and an updated center console.

When it comes to the powertrain, the Mustang will reportedly continue to be available with a 5.0-liter Coyote V8, as well as the 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four. It’s also rumored that the next-gen Mustang could become available with a hybrid powertrain. Since the all-new Mustang will apparently be underpinned by the CD6 platform shared with the Explorer, this will not come as a surprise if it happens.

With just a few weeks to go before the 2022 NAIAS, we certainly cannot wait for the next-generation pony car to make its official debut in September.
