Report: Porsche to suspend production due to Ukraine conflict

Automakers around the world are already experiencing production delays due to the chip shortage. The Russia-Ukraine war is making things worse. One automaker directly affected by the conflict in Europe and will reportedly pause all production this month is Porsche.

According to a report by Carscoops, an internal memo from Porsche posted on Twitter claims the production of several models will halt later this March. The automaker says supply chain woes caused by the situation in Ukraine and Russia are to blame for the disruption and temporary halt in production. Assuming this is true, it spells bad news for Porsche and its customers.

In the said memo, production of the 911 GT3 and the 911 Touring will be paused starting March 17. Afterward, all other 911 production will stop on March 31. Meanwhile, the 718 Cayman and Boxster models will be put on hold starting March 14. The document also says production of the Cayenne already ceased on March 7, the Macan and Panamera on March 2, and the Taycan on March 3.

Porsche has yet to confirm or make an official announcement regarding the temporary halt in production of its entire lineup. However, the German marque did issue a statement to Motor1 that confirms Macan and Panamera production has been paused since March 2. There’s also no word yet when production will resume, but the months of February and March haven't been kind to the automaker.

Apart from the reported halt in production, Porsche recently lost around a thousand vehicles due to the fire aboard the Felicity Ace. The cargo ship has since sunk to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The automaker has also stopped deliveries of vehicles into Russia last March 3, one of the brand's biggest markets.

Since Porsche is under the Volkswagen umbrella, does this mean models from other brands could also be affected and halt production? It’s very possible.
