Report: Ferrari not in a rush to launch second EV

Ferraris are easily one the most desirable cars in the world. But when you take out its very soul which is its engine, then it’s a different story.

According to Reuters, citing anonymous sources, the iconic brand from Maranello is delaying its second EV model from 2026 to 2028, as there’s simply little to no demand for such a car.

While they are already set to reveal their first EV by October this year, the lack of consumer interest for luxury performance EVs mean Ferrari will take its time to develop better technologies for the second EV.

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale PHEV has been on sale since 2019, but the positive reception for it is due to the fact that it still has the throaty roar of a V8 engine. Artificial sound simply doesn’t seem to cut it for Maranello’s clientele.

Ferrari is not the only one who has scaled back or postponed its EV plans, as Lamborghini already pushed back its EV launch by another year, while Maserati outrightly killed hopes of an electric MC20.

For now, Ferrari could simply be in a wait-and-see approach than build something it doesn’t need to build for the time being.
