Porsche rolls out Taycan OS update

Porsche has released the latest version of its in-car operating system. We already reported last week that Volkwagen's main developer Cariad, a division in charge of software for the conglomerate, has had its shares of woes.

Now it looks like they have answered the call and were able to help churn out the latest firmware upgrade for the new Taycan. Will this update and its features trickle down to the other electric and non-electric vehicles of the car company?

The main focus of the update is to assist in the various charging environments and battery usage. Aside from added protection from fast-charging, the new update will have a feature that allows drivers to locate the nearest fast-charging station. The thermal battery management has also been improved for faster battery preconditioning to maximize its potential and extend its service life. 

The update also benefits the powertrain. The front motor de-energizes in normal mode and also works the same way in the dual-motor Taycan variant. This will reduce the parasitic load and will have a big impact on the battery. You can also see this visually as the update displays real-time information on the dashboard.

The redesigned UI will be more colorful, and tiled and will come with Spotify integration. Support for Android Auto will be present but surprisingly, no Apple CarPlay. This may end up as an extra purchase if Porsche joins the subscription-based bandwagon. There will also be an updated Variable Light Control for the panoramic sunroof. This means you can adjust the transparency of the roof in just a couple of taps. 

When it comes to hardware, there are some minor wheel updates. The Taycan can be now fitted with front and rear dash cams. You can get these at the Porsche Tequipment website with a lot more customizable features. 

As of this article, the hardware changes will be exclusive to the 2023 Taycans, though the software updates will be available to the older models very soon.
