Porsche 911 Hybrid debuts by the end of the month
After over 60 years, the Porsche 911 will get electrified

After extensive testing across different climates, road conditions, and countries, the first-ever Porsche 911 with a hybrid powertrain is set to make its debut this May. That's right, the 911 will be getting a performance-focused hybrid drive that's ready for series production.

After over 60 years of running on pure combustion power, the Porsche 911 Hybrid will mark a significant change in the sports car's history. No exact specifications have been revealed yet by Porsche with regards to the 911 Hybrid although they have been busy testing the vehicle. In fact, they have taken the car as far as Dubai and have also driven it on the Nurburgring.
Over the course of performance testing in “The Green Hell”, Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister was able to complete a lap with the 911 Hybrid in 7:16.934 minutes. This is 8.7 seconds quicker than the corresponding version based on the predecessor model, a 992 GTS. The test car was fitted with standard road tires plus an aero kit with a fixed rear wing that has been available as an option in past 911s.

As to what exactly powers the 911 Hybrid, Porsche is still keeping it a mystery. However, we won't be surprised if the electrified flat-six will still feature a pair of turbochargers and will be assisted by some sort of electric motor that provides extra oomph when needed. We're also curious about where Porsche placed the battery of the hybrid system in order to preserve the vehicle's handling capabilities.
“For the first time in our icon’s 61-year history, we are installing a hybrid drive system in a roadgoing 911. This innovative performance hybrid makes the 911 even more dynamic. We left nothing to chance during development and tested the new 911 under all sorts of conditions all over the world. From the freezing cold to scorching heat, as was the case during the final stages of testing in Dubai. Whether at a high drivetrain load in the demanding conditions of mountain passes or in the stop-and-go traffic of an urban environment, the new 911 has mastered even the most difficult challenges with aplomb. All in all, our engineers and test drivers clocked up more than five million kilometers of development driving,” said Frank Moser, vice president Model Line 911 and 718.\

The Porsche 911 Hybrid will officially debut on May 28, 2024, and will be broadcast on YouTube and other social media channels.
