PNP acquires 143 new patrol vehicles, 16 motorcycles

Expect to see more patrol vehicles by the Philippine National Police (PNP) roaming the streets soon. This comes after the PNP acquired a new fleet of vehicles and motorcycles. The new upgrades are part of the PNP's modernization efforts which include the aforementioned patrol vehicles/motorcycles, along with new firearms and equipment.

According to PNP Director for Logistics Major General Mario Reyes, the new equipment was procured through the capability enhancement programs from 2021 to 2023. During yesterday's blessing rites, PNP Chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr. presented the new equipment.

These include 3,243 striker-fired pistols worth PHP 61.4 million, 406 units of night vision equipment worth more than PHP 121 million, and 2,648 all-purpose tactical vests worth over PHP 113 million. The PNP also acquired a total of eleven 150cc motorcycles worth PHP 1.57 million along with five 650cc heavy motorcycles and 143 single-cab patrol vehicles worth over PHP 175 million.

“Yung transportation natin halos sa tingin ko 80 percent na yung last report na nababasa ko, 80 to 90 percent yung kumbaga objective natin na nako-comply na natin. Ang pinagpapasalamat ko is the LGUs (local government units) are also doing their part and malaking bagay yung support nila,” said Acorda.

In the future, the PNP said they plan to procure around 22,000 body-worn cameras this year. Acorda added that this plan is part of their efforts to keep the Philippines' ranking as the third safest country in Southeast Asia.
