PIMS 2024: Mazda MX-30 R-EV rotary makes an appearance in PH
Mazda previews MX-30 R-EV at 2024 Philippine International Motor Show

Mazda Philippines has started to introduce hybrid vehicles in the country with the CX-60 and CX-90. But now they look to offer more using the iconic rotary engine.
That’s right. The rotary engine has returned for Mazda’s electrification efforts with the MX-30 R-EV. It has made its first local appearance at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show.

Essentially, Mazda’s rotary engine is being utilized in a similar fashion to Nissan's e-Power system. The MX-30 R-EV’s electric motor produces 170 PS and 260 Nm of torque and is directly connected to the axles. The 830cc rotary engine operates at a constant speed to recharge the MX-30's 17.8 kWh lithium-ion batteries.

Speaking of which, the batteries can also be plugged in to maximize electric driving range, offering up to 85 km of EV range without the rotary engines firing up. When it does, the MX-30 R-EV can reach up to 600 km on a single tank.
The modest size of the MX-30 R-EV makes it fit in the B-segment crossover class, and its typical Mazda Kodo design characteristics give it a sporty appearance. What’s unique about the MX-30 R-EV is that it features hinged doors at the rear like the FJ Cruiser.

Inside, the MX-30 R-EV features a nicely crafted interior with the use of leather and high-grade plastics, with the Mazda design ethos of man and machine as one.

If you want to see the Mazda MX-30 R-EV in the metal, you can check it out at the Philippine International Motor Show that runs from October 24 to 27 at the World Trade Center Manila.
