PIMS 2024: Changan Hunter RE-EV pickup can travel over 1,000 km
Changan Auto PH joins the midsize pickup truck market with Hunter RE-EV

Changan Auto Philippines is set to revolutionize the pickup truck market with the launch of the Hunter RE-EV. Revealed today at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show, Changan claims the 2025 Hunter RE-EV is the world's first Range-extended Electric Pickup.

First launched earlier this year in the PRC, the Changan Hunter RE-EV doesn't have a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE). Yes, it has a 2.0L BlueCore turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 190 PS with 340 Nm of torque but it's only there to charge a 31.18 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack. This, in turn, powers either a single electric motor or a dual motor system.

The result is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and series hybrid setup wherein the electric motors drive the pickup itself while the engine serves as a generator to charge the battery while on the go. Alternatively, the Hunter RE-EV can also be recharged The dual-motor drive puts out a combined 268 PS with 470 Nm of torque while the single-motor version makes 174 PS and 320 Nm of pull.
With a fully charged battery, Changan says the Hunter RE-EV can cover up to 180 km on pure electric power. With the 2.0L turbocharged working alongside it, however, the Hunter RE-EV can travel up to 1,031 km based on the CLTC cycle. In addition, the battery system supports a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system thanks to a 3.3 kW high-power cargo box with two 220V sockets. The V2L system has a maximum power consumption of 227 kWh which can be used to power more than 100 hours to appliances.

Style-wise, the Hunter RE-EV looks something straight out of Cyberpunk with its sleek and sharp styling. It has an imposing front end that's dominated by a huge borderless grille and a pair of L-shaped LED daytime running lights & headlights.
It also has diamond-cut alloy wheels, black body cladding, running boards, and functional roof rails & bed rails. For extra peace of mind when going off-road, Changan equipped the Hunter RE-EV with front & rear e-controlled differential locks plus a center lock that comes with 10 driving modes.

Inside, the Hunter RE-EV has a 7.5-inch digital instrument cluster along with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Other key features present inside the pickup truck include a column shifter, a 40W wireless charging pad, power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control with a PM 0.1 air filtration system, a 540-degree camera system for extra outside visibility, a 360-degree dashcam, and a host of airbags.

The 2025 Changan Hunter RE-EV will start at sub PHP 2 million and units will be available starting Q1 2025.
