PIMS 2022: Hyundai shows Ioniq 5 EV, coming Jan 2023

Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc (HMPH) has just given everyone a glimpse of its electrification plans for the foreseeable future. After teasing us of its arrival a few weeks ago, the Korean automaker has officially previewed the Ioniq 5 at the 8^th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).

Serving as the brand's first-ever model under the Ioniq family, the electric crossover features an angular and retro-looking design inspired by the company's first production car, the Pony. Underneath its metal skin, however, hides an all-electric powertrain that produces zero emissions.

What started out initially as the 45 Concept from 2019, Hyundai decided to retain most of the concept's looks for the Ioniq 5. From the same sharp exterior, recessed LED taillights and headlights, sharp lines, pop-out door handles, and clamshell hood, the Ioniq 5 is a looker from any angle. Other notable exterior features of the crossover include the massive 20-inch alloy wheels, prominent wheel arches, and a tailgate spoiler.

Official dimensions were not revealed for the PH market. However, international examples measure 4635mm long, 1890mm wide, and 1605mm tall. It even gets a generous 3000mm wheelbase which is longer than the Palisade full-size SUV.

Since it's underpinned by the company's E-GMP platform, the Ioniq 5 comes with a spacious and futuristic-looking cabin. It also gets a completely flat floor which allowed designers to maximize legroom. Two 12-inch displays greet occupants inside the Ioniq 5 – one serves as the instrument cluster plus multi-info display, while the other is the touchscreen infotainment system.

Other available amenities present in the Ioniq 5 are a panoramic glass roof, power-adjustable front seats, a heads-up display with augmented reality support, center armrests for the front and rear passengers, and automatic climate control.

In other markets, the Ioniq 5 is available with two battery options; a 58 kWh or a bigger 72.6 kWh unit. There are also two electric motor layouts – a single rear-motor drivetrain and a dual-motor system complete with all-wheel drive. The most powerful setup has a 72.6 kWh battery that's paired with the dual-motor layout, resulting in a total system output of 306 PS and 650 Nm of torque. Range varies its farthest is around 470 to 480 km on a single charge.

The Ioniq 5 is expected to arrive in January 2023 which means we're only just a few months away before its official debut next year.
