Pilot run for full online vehicle registration renewal starts this month

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will push for the full online vehicle registration renewal process, using the Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS).

Speaking to the media recently, LTO Assistant Secretary, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said the agency will begin using the online Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS) for purposes of online motor vehicle registration renewal. The vehicle inspection will be done solely through a Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (PMVIC).

The LTO also said that the pilot run will start on August 9, 2024, in NCR, Region III, and Region IV-A.

The online vehicle registration renewal process aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s instruction to make all government services fast and comfortable for all Filipino people by utilizing technology.

MVIS and PMVIC

The Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS) is a relatively new program by the LTO to ensure the roadworthiness of vehicles before their registration gets renewed. The MVIS thoroughly checks 62 individual vehicle parts through visual and computer-aided testing. These parts include, but are not limited to brakes, lights, speedometer, side mirrors, exhaust, dripping oil, suspension system, and any modifications.

The Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (PMVIC), on the other hand, utilizes the MVIS to perform thorough vehicle inspections with their equipment and trained vehicle inspectors. It will then forward the Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR) online to the LTO.
