Philippine auto sales up anew in November 2017 with 40,799 units

Philippine auto sales surged by 11.7% in November registering 40,799 units sold based on the latest report from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA). Continuing the positive movement from October, total sales from CAMPI, TMA members are expected to breach the 400,000 barrier.

Year-to-date growth continues to be optimistic with 380,179 units sold from January to November, a 16.8% growth compared to last year's 325,468 units. Passenger car sales remain optimistic at +3.8% while Commercial vehicle sales remain healthy at +24.5%.

Compared to the same month in 2016, November 2017 reflected a 23.8% gain against the 32,966 unit total the previous year.

Comparing with the previous month, Passenger Car sales grew 1.8%, while Commercial Vehicle sales jumped up by 16.4%. The Commercial Vehicle segment increased its share of the pie with a total of 28,898 units, capturing 70.83% of the market. Passenger Car sales totaled 11,901, taking the remaining 29.13%.

"November sales result is higher than the month of October because of increased sales of major assemblers and distributors. Carrying the momentum from November sales, the outlook for December remains strong driven by the good sales performance of key models from other brands. We are confident that the year-end industry target will be met as we continue with competitive promotional support and marketing activities," according to CAMPI president Atty. Rommel Gutierrez.

The Commercial Vehicle sub-segments were still led by Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV), comprising 70.35% of CV sales with 20,329 units sold; 23% more than last month's 16,521 total. AUV/MPV segment sold 6,832 units, down 0.4% from 6,858 last month. Truck and bus sales were all in the positive territory. Light truck sales gained 9.3%, selling a total of 884 units compared to the previous month's 809 unit total. Category 4 Heavy Duty Truck and Bus sales totaled 515 units (+25%) compared to last month's 412 units. Category 5 Heavy Duty Truck and Bus were up with 338 units sold, (+50.2%) compared to last month's 225 units.

Sales performance were mostly positive for most brands in November. The top 3 advancers*: Isuzu (IPC) surged by 64.7%, Nissan (NPI) increased by 32.6%, Ford (FGP) rebounded from last month's decline with a 31.2% increase in sales. Top three decliners for November* were BMW (ACC) with a 33.3% drop, Volkswagen (ACEI) with a 32.6% decline, and Kia (CAC) down by 24%.

*only brands selling more than 100 units per month were included.

The top five performing manufacturers for the month of November are:

1. Toyota – 17,268 units (42.23% market share)

2. Mitsubishi – 6,953 units (17.04% market share)

3. Isuzu – 3,545 units (8.69% market share)

4. Ford– 3,408 units (8.35% market share)

5.Honda – 2,893 units (7.62% market share)

The total count for the first eleven months of 2017 sees Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation with its commanding lead of the market with 43.82-percent. Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation followed in second with 17.55-percent. Ford Motor Company Philippines, Inc. remains in third with 8.42-percent. Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. retains fourth with 7.05-percent, Isuzu Philippines, Corp. holds fifth position with 6.91-percent.
