Peugeot reveals refreshed 2008 next week

Remember when spy photographers managed to take pictures of what looks like the facelifted Peugeot 2008? Well, the French automaker is gearing up for its official launch next week after the company released a teaser image of the updated crossover.

Peugeot actually sent us an invite for its digital launch that is set for next week, May 4, 2023. Attached to the invite is a teaser image (see picture above) of the refreshed e-2008, the electric version of the crossover. While there's not much to say about the picture, it's clear that it will feature an updated badge.

Unlike the current e-2008 that Peugeot Philippines previewed at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show, the updated version will get a new badge that depicts “E-2008”. Perhaps this is Peugeot's way of making it more distinct from the outgoing model it will be replacing.

As for the vehicle itself, there are no exact specifications or details about it yet. However, we already have a good idea of what powertrains the refreshed 2008 (and e-2008) will get. For starters, the crossover will likely get the new 1.2-liter PureTech mild-hybrid turbo three-cylinder that was first revealed for the 3008 and 5008. Not only does the electrified engine emit fewer carbon emissions, but it also benefits from an electric motor built into the gearbox, a 48V battery placed under the seats, and the ability to travel on pure electric power at speeds of up to 30 km/h.

The assisted 1.2L turbocharged engine makes 136 PS with 230 Nm of torque which equates to an increase of 6 PS over the non-hybrid version. However, Peugeot claims the electrified engine releases fewer carbon emissions by up to 20g per kilometer. In addition, the automaker says it allows the engine to save up to a liter of fuel per 100 km based on the WLTP cycle.

As to what will power the refreshed e-2008, we won't be surprised if it will be the same all-electric powertrain found in the 2023 e-208. That means we can expect the e-2008 to put out 156 PS and 260 Nm of torque – an increase of 20 PS over the current e-2008 output. Not only that, but the electric crossover may also get a bigger battery pack that's rated at 48.1-kWh. This should mean that the e-2008 will be able to cover around 400 km on a single charge.

With the launch of the refreshed Peugeot 2008 (and e-2008) set for next week, we'll be keeping an eye out for any possible leaks of new information about Peugeot's little cub. We're also keeping our fingers crossed that the updated version of the e-2008 will be the one that Peugeot will bring to the Philippines in the not-so-distant future.
