Peugeot boosts battery production to expand EV lineup

Peugeot's goal is to electrify 100% of its whole vehicle lineup by 2025. Of course, this cannot happen without one important thing, batteries. The French brand estimates that it will assemble 10,000 batteries per month for its model lineup by next year and as many as 7,000 batteries a month for its Large Commercial Vehicle or LCV range. 

With its electrification plans accelerating in 2022 with the new 408, Peugeot is trying to strengthen the brand’s plug-in hybrid offering and will launch an updated 308 soon. This year more than 70% of its lineup sold worldwide has been electrified. In the EU, one out of four cars sold this year are now electrified, which is an improvement from last year's ratio of one out of six cars. 

Peugeot has a growing team of technicians responsible for putting together and testing out the batteries that go into each vehicle. With factories in Spain, Slovakia, and France, they test out each battery to ensure its reliability, performance, and lifecycle. With the Stellantis group, the mother company of Peugeot, keeping a watchful eye on the quality standards of each battery being developed and tested, Peugeot has increased their number of technicians to meet the 2040 mandate early. 

The electrification of Peugeot is a success. Low Emission Vehicles or LEVs represent a fourth of their overall car and van sales in the first half of 2022. The brand is hurrying to provide electrified models of the 208, 308, 408, 508, 2008, 3008, 5008, and more as the market is looking towards greener technologies says Jerome Micheron, Peugeot Product Director. 

With the new 408 coming in two plug-in hybrid powertrains offering 180 PS and 225 PS respectively, all eyes are now on the new 308. Both cars will be using the EMP2 platform evolution which allows 100% electric motorization.

In a world where the auto industry has become more environmentally conscious, the race has shifted. We now are trying to squeeze out more power from renewable sources of energy and seeing that battery development is now on top of everyone’s list, we can only go faster and farther on every new battery that comes out.
