PBBM launches 'sumbongsapangulo.ph' to monitor flood control projects

In a move to combat corruption and promote transparency, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. unveiled to the public a new website designed to provide the Filipinos with unprecedented access to information on all government flood control projects.

This website, https://sumbongsapangulo.ph/, will effectively allow taxpayers to easily identify and monitor projects within their local areas and empower them to become active participants in government oversight.

“We have put it into a form that is accessible to the public, and most importantly, it is in a form that the public can use so that they can first identify the flood control projects that are within their area,” said the President.

The platform is a direct response to the President’s directive during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other agencies to conduct a comprehensive audit of all flood control projects nationwide.

“Disturbing” data

The launch of the website is the first step in a sweeping government audit of all flood control initiatives. The President also revealed that the total cost of these flood control projects since the start of his term (mid-2022) has reached more than half a trillion pesos—a staggering PHP 545 billion to be exact.

Even more concerning, the President flagged what he described as “disturbing” information: a significant 20% of this massive budget was awarded to only 15 contractors. While he did not accuse any of the contractors of wrongdoing, he confirmed that a deeper probe into the matter is already underway.

PBBM “hears” you

The President strongly encouraged citizens to visit the platform and utilize its features to track projects and submit feedback. President Marcos also assured the public that all reports or complaints filed through this new website would be sent directly to him, ensuring that their concerns are heard at the highest level of government.

RSA proposal “very welcome”

Amidst the government’s push for accountability, President Marcos also weighed in on San Miguel Corporation (SMC) CEO Ramon Ang’s recent proposal to help solve Metro Manila’s flooding problem—at zero cost to taxpayers.

The President described the offer as “certainly very welcome,” indicating a potential “collab” between the private and public sectors to address the decades-long issue of flooding.

Ramon Ang has volunteered to tackle the flooding problem, again, at “no cost to the government.” This bold proposal has been met with significant public interest.
