Omoda 5 EV confirmed for Philippine market

Earlier this year, we confirmed that the Omoda 5 will be launching in the Philippines for under PHP 1.5 million. It's set to take on other B-segment crossovers like the Geely Coolray, MG ZS T, Changan CS35 Plus, and Honda HR-V. Powertrain details are scant but we gander that it will likely have the 1.5-liter turbo with 146 PS and 230 Nm of torque mated to a CVT driving the front wheels.

But some of you may wonder if Omoda will also bring the EV version of the crossover. Well, the automaker has just confirmed that the Omoda 5 EV will indeed be coming to the Philippines, and they have given us a glimpse of what it will look like once it arrives.

While it will have a similar shape to the regular Omoda 5, the EV variant will have a sharper and more aggressive look. And since it doesn't have an engine under the hood, the grille is closed-off which gives the crossover a sleeker appearance.

When it comes to features, Omoda says it will have plenty to offer. For starters, it will have wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a remote engine start, an 8-speaker Sony sound system, a host of USB data/charging ports, and a wireless charging pad for mobile phones. In addition, Omoda says it will have power-adjustable seats with heating/cooling function for a more comfortable riding experience, as well as a pair of 10.25-inch displays on the dashboard.

As for its electric powertrain, the Omoda 5 EV will come with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a liquid-cooled system. The electric motor is estimated to produce 204 PS (150 kW) and around 400 Nm of torque. The battery capacity remains a mystery although the automaker did say that on a full charge, it can travel between 300 to 450 kilometers.

For extra peace of mind, the Omoda 5 EV will have a wide array of intelligent driver aids. These include Front Collision Avoidance, Front Departure Reminder, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and a Driver Monitoring System.

With the Omoda 5 EV set to join the turbocharged Omoda 5 and the Jaecoo 7 this Q4 2023, the automaker is set to make a big splash in the local automotive scene.
