October renewal late fees waived by LTO due to Typhoon Kristine

In light of the recent devastation brought about by Typhoon Kristine, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced that it will waive the payment of penalties for late registration of motor vehicles/motorcycles and renewal of driver’s licenses which are expiring this month of October.

In a memorandum, LTO Chief Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said that the waiving of penalties covers the late registration for vehicles with October 2024 expiration, as well as for the driver’s licenses expiring from October 21 to 31, 2024.

“The penalties shall be waived until November 8, 2024. The validity of the DLs and MV registrations falling within the mentioned period are likewise extended until November 8, 2024,” said Mendoza.

In its report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said around two million people across the country were affected by typhoon Kristine.

Mendoza added that the imposition of penalty for new registration, the counting of days from the date of the Sales Invoice shall only commence on the next working day after November 8, 2024, for those motor vehicles/motorcycles purchased from October 21-31, 2024.

Mendoza said the waiving of penalties would be a nationwide coverage as the weather disturbance hit almost the entire country. “The IT service providers shall see to it that the systems are ready immediately upon issuance of this Memorandum,” said Mendoza.
