Not Sealion 6: BYD to launch Sealion 06 as midsize EV/PHEV crossover
The BYD Sealion 06 will be available in both PHEV and EV variants

It’s no secret BYD Cars Philippines is quite popular these days as the brand offers a wide array of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). From electric vehicles (EVs) like the Seagull and the recently launched eMAX 7 MPV to plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) such as the Shark 6 and Seal 5, BYD Cars Philippines is proving that electrified vehicles need not be out of reach for customers.
Perhaps serving as the brand’s most popular model as of late is the Sealion 6, a compact crossover PHEV that can sip fuel and travel over 1,000 km with ease thanks to its DM-i PHEV powertrain. In the future, however, the Sealion 6 (AKA the Song DM-i in China) could be joined by its bigger sibling, and no, we are not talking about the Sealion 7 midsize crossover EV.
Recently, the PRC’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the first pictures and details of the upcoming BYD Sealion 06. Yes, despite the similar-sounding name, the Sealion 06 will be different from the Sealion 6 we get.

For starters, the Sealion 06 is bigger as it’s a midsize crossover SUV. It measures 4810mm long, 1920mm wide, 1675mm tall, and has a 2820mm wheelbase. More importantly, the Sealion 06 will be available in both EV and PHEV variants. The former will be offered with two different motor options; one makes 228 PS while the other generates 241 PS. Meanwhile, the PHEV version will have a 1.5L engine that’s assisted by an electric motor that has a peak output of 160 kW or 217 PS.
Design-wise, the Sealion 06 features a more curvaceous design that’s dominated by split LED headlights at the front with a low-slung grille. It also has what appears to be side air intakes, which could serve as cooling vents for the brakes. Other exterior features include diamond-cut alloy wheels, a sloping roofline, full-width LED taillights, and a massive tailgate.
There’s no timeline yet as to when the Sealion 06 will be officially revealed. However, we won’t be surprised if it perhaps makes its debut in the coming months. We’ll also be curious if the Sealion 06 could eventually replace the Sealion 6 or perhaps be offered alongside it.
