NLEX to focus on security after fatal Skyway underbone incursion
NLEX says motorist safety is top priority, and will tighten security in critical areas

By now, you may have already heard or read the news about Sunday’s incident in Skyway Stage 3 which involved a Toyota Innova and a motorcycle rider who went up the facility, counterflowing against traffic.
The motorcycle rider later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the report submitted by enforcers of SMC Tollways – the toll operator of Skyway Stage 3 – the underbone rider entered from the NLEX northbound off-ramp in Balintawak.
“The [underbone] rider came from NLEX northbound at-grade then went up to Skyway Stage 3 counterflowing against traffic,” told the SMC Tollways insider who wishes to remain anonymous.
The management of North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), issued a statement, saying that they will focus on security to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
“While security measures are currently in place, additional improvements will be made to prevent this kind of incident. We will re-strategize our deployment to focus on critical areas and install additional signages. We will also intensify our information campaign for public awareness,” said NLEX Corporation to Autoindustriya.com.
Some netizens suggest that the motorcycle rider may have entered NLEX at-grade through the service road, near Quirino Avenue, while others suggest that the rider entered from A. Bonifacio and then went straight to Skyway Stage 3-NLEX off-ramp where he entered the opposite direction of traffic.
“We would also like to take this opportunity to remind all motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to avoid any potential risks. Let us collectively prioritize safe and responsible driving practices,” added NLEX Corporation.
Not the first time
This is not the first time that sub-400cc motorcycles have entered the facilities managed by NLEX.

In a video that went viral last month, a sub-400cc motorcycle was seen riding along the Harbor Link, counterflowing against traffic. We can also see in the video that the rider was almost hit by an oncoming semi truck during his/her excursion on the tollway.
In another incident not too long ago, a scooter was caught on cam strolling along NLEX possibly somewhere between Pulilan, Bulacan and Apalit, Pampanga.
