NLEX raising section of SCTEX Dinalupihan due to flooding

Heads up motorists who frequently take the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). NLEX Corporation has started raising the elevation of a 640-meter section of the expressway near Dinalupihan to make it safer for motorists during the rainy season.

Set to be finished in Q3 of 2022, the engineering works are aimed at reducing the vulnerability of the road to flooding. This in turn will ensure safe passage for all vehicles during inclement weather conditions. Road works such as new pavement construction on top of the existing one, and the addition of new culverts or drainage structures are currently being undertaken as part of the project.

Minimal lane closures are currently being implemented as workers clear the area and remove the guardrails for the duration of the construction. Motorists are assured, however, that traffic management and safety measures are in place to ensure safety and minimize travel delays. In addition, road signs and other warning devices have been installed to guide motorists.

“We continue to improve our infrastructure assets to boost their serviceability and enable them to be resilient so they can withstand future climate risks,” said J. Luigi L. Bautista, president and general manager of NLEX Corporation.

Back in July 2018, torrential rains from typhoons 'Henry' and 'Josie' left most parts of Luzon blanketed by floods. As a result, a section of SCTEX near Dinalupihan was submerged in water. The flood was so severe that motorists coming to and from Subic struggled to navigate the flooded section.

With NLEX busy to make sure flooding won't affect this part of SCTEX near Dinalupihan again, this could give motorists peace of mind during the rainy season.
