Nissan Sylphy, X-Trail dropped from PH price list

It seems Nissan is continuing to (quietly) trim its model lineup in the Philippines.

Back in January 2020, Nissan Philippines Inc (NPI) quietly removed the Altima from its website. Curious, we asked a high-ranking Nissan executive if this was true, to which they confirmed that the midsize sedan is no longer available. Citing low customer demand and shift in customer preference, it's not exactly surprising Nissan decided to stop selling the Altima.

After the Altima's departure, two more models have seemingly disappeared from the Nissan website. This time it's the X-Trail and the Sylphy. Does this mean Nissan has given up on both vehicles for the Philippine market?

Speaking with a contact, it seems that Nissan has no future plans yet for the all-new X-Trail for the Philippines. Of course, that means the doors aren't closed, but given the strength of the Terra, it may be that Nissan is currently focusing their efforts there.

Last updated in 2017 as a 2018 model year, the refreshed crossover is actually the first Nissan model in the country to come with Nissan Intelligent Mobility features. From a 360-degree around-view monitor, blind-spot monitor, automatic emergency braking, and rear-cross traffic alert, it paved the way for other models like the Terra, Navara, Patrol Royale, Leaf, and Almera to come with the smart driver aids.

As for the Sylphy, Nissan has also stopped selling the compact sedan. Like the X-Trail, our source indicated that there are no plans yet to introduce a replacement model for the four-door sedan. 

The Sylphy was first launched in the country back in 2014 when Nissan decided to unify its operations under one company which resulted in Nissan Philippines Inc. While the sedan offered plenty of features and amenities at budget-friendly prices, it received little-to-no updates through the years before being quietly removed from the pricelist.

With both the X-Trail and Sylphy's future in the Philippines in limbo, it looks like NPI is at a crossroads of sorts. Who knows, maybe we'll finally see the next-generation X-Trail finally arrive in our country. At the other end of the spectrum, we could even see the return of the Sentra nameplate after being dormant for years.
