Nissan shows us how to modify the 2022 Frontier

There are various ways to modify a pickup truck. Overland, mall crawling, or arctic explorer, the choice is yours. To give customers a better idea of how to modify the new Frontier, Nissan prepared three concepts for the 2022 Chicago Auto Show. These trucks range from mild to wild and appeal to a wide variety of audiences.

All three trucks are based on the 2022 Frontier Crew Cab but differ in trim level – S, SV, and Pro-4X. Unlike other concept trucks, all the parts and equipment fitted on the Frontier concepts shown here are available for purchase either from aftermarket brands or directly from Nissan themselves. That means customers can recreate these trucks on their own.

Out of the three, the Frontier S 4x4 based Project 72X is the most simple looking of the bunch. It pays homage to the Datsun 720, one of Nissan’s most successful models in the past, and the first vehicle assembled in the United States at their Smyrna (Tennessee) Vehicle Assembly Plant in 1983. This Frontier rides on white-painted steel wheels wrapped in Pro-4X tires and comes with body decals. It’s also lifted by 2.5-inches for better ground clearance.

Project Hardbody also pays tribute to another historically significant Nissan truck – the D21. Nissan turned this Frontier SV 4x4 to look just like the D21 Hardbody from the 80s. The concept truck is painted red and fitted with “4X4” door graphics for the proper retro look. Other modifications include a 3-inch lift kit, black fender arches, a sports bar, and rectangular LED lights. It rides on classic Hardbody block-style wheels wrapped in chunky 33-inch tires.

The last of three is possibly the wildest one too. Nissan calls it Project Adventure, and it’s based on the Navara Pro-4X. As the name implies, the concept is aimed towards the overlanding market. It rides 5-inch higher courtesy of a lift kit and comes with 34-inch mud-terrain tires. It also features a Yakima bed rack system, roof basket, and roof tent. Nissan also added a Kicker bed audio system for some tunes when exploring the great outdoors. The body has then been wrapped with a map of the US.

We hope Nissan Philippines will do something similar with the new Navara. That way, Navara owners can have an idea of how to modify their new trucks.
