Nissan Hyper Tourer Concept is a sleek, self-driving luxury minivan

Nissan continues to release the first images and details of its upcoming concepts that will be revealed in full at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. Following the digital reveal of the Hyper Urban and Hyper Adventure concepts, the Japanese automaker has now unveiled the Hyper Tourer concept, and it looks like it's a minivan built for the next century.

Set to be revealed in physical form next week in Tokyo, the all-electric minivan concept is geared towards individuals who appreciate the finer things in life and enjoy the company of friends and associates. Whether it's a road trip or a business meeting, the Hyper Tourer concept will be able to deliver.

Starting with its design, the Hyper Tourer blends smooth body panels and sharp character lines which demonstrate traditional Japanese design in the modern era. It is then complemented by a distinct side profile that flows diagonally from the front to the rear fender for better aerodynamic performance, as well as emphasizing its distinct shape.

Also worth mentioning is the Hyper Tourer's beltline (or waistline) which actually serves as the concept's headlight and signature lamp. Meanwhile, the kumiko-patterned wheels and the soft straight body line make for a premium feel beyond the concept's class.

Open the sliding doors and the Hyper Tourer greets occupants into a lounge-like interior. This was made possible thanks to a flat floor that houses the solid-state batteries. Back to the cabin, the Hyper Tourer features a unique set of front that can swivel 360 degrees which can face those seated in the back. Since the occupants can face each other, the vehicle benefits from a fully autonomous driving system.

Meanwhile, those seated in the rear can use a wearable display to view and control the navigation and audio system on the front center display. There's also an AI system that can monitor a person's biometric signs including brain waves, heart rate, breathing, and perspiration. This will allow the system to automatically select the appropriate music, adjust cabin temperature, and set the lighting to fit a person's mood.

For Nissan, the Hyper Tourer concept re-envisions the road trip by bringing the luxurious living room into the passenger van. Combined with the concept's striking looks and intelligent self-driving system, the Nissan Hyper Tourer looks to be a prelude to an all-new luxury minivan. Perhaps it might even be a preview of the next-generation Serena.
