Next-gen Toyota Wigo achieves four-star rating in ASEAN NCAP
4 stars in Adult and Child Occupant Protection, Safety Assist, and Motorcycle Safety

Just days before Malaysia officially gets the first dibs on the all-new Toyota Wigo (under the name Perodua Axia), we and the rest of the region have been given an idea of how safe the next-generation model is.
Under the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), the 2023 Wigo has scored four out of five stars, and performed well to deserve above-average ratings in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assists, and Motorcyclist Safety (MS).

Out of a maximum score of 32 points, the all-new Wigo achieved 25.65 points in AOP which is composed of front impact, side impact, and head protection tests. For the COP tests, the small hatchback also delivered an impressive 43.43 points out of 51.
In terms of safety assists, the all-new Toyota Wigo for the Malaysian market comes standard with ABS, ESC, plus seatbelt reminders for front and rear passengers. Meanwhile, safety assists such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning (LDW), forward collision warning, and rear cross-traffic alert come as optional equipment. As a result, ASEAN NCAP gave the all-new Wigo 16.5 out of 21 points.
While it has blind spot detection as optional safety equipment, the all-new Wigo does not have advanced equipment such as an AEB that detects motorcycles. Thus, ASEAN NCAP only gave the small hatchback in this category 7 out of 16 points.

Overall, the all-new Toyota Wigo got 73.55 out of 100 in the ASEAN NCAP safety tests.
Despite coming up short of getting the perfect five-star rating, the all-new Toyota Wigo showed improvements, particularly in its chassis structure and an added list of standard safety equipment. It is all because the all-new Wigo is now underpinned by the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, and the Perodua version of Toyota's Safety Sense.
