New York 2023: Genesis previews radical-looking GV80 Coupe Concept
GV80 Coupe Concept previews more performance-oriented Genesis vehicles

Back in 2020, Hyundai's luxury marque Genesis revealed the sleek and stylish GV80. Aimed directly against the likes of the Lexus RX, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLC, it's the Korean brand's attempt at the luxury SUV market and features the company's 'Athletic Elegance' design language, along with a host of high-tech amenities.
Three years on and Genesis is looking at expanding its lineup with a sportier version of the GV80. Say hello to the Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept, and right off the bat it looks sportier and more aggressive than your regular GV80.

According to the automaker, the GV80 Coupe Concept hints at more emotional and performance-oriented models for the future and was inspired by the X Speedium Coupe Concept that was unveiled in New York last year. More importantly, the concept combines the practicality of a lifestyle-oriented SUV with the dynamism of a sports car.
With a rear-wheel drive platform, the GV80 Coupe Concept's long hood, and short deck design highlight the sporting pedigree of the vehicle. It also gets muscular fenders, massive alloy wheels, and the brand's signature Double G-Matrix Pattern Crest grille surrounded by quad lights. Around the back, it features full-width LED taillights a tailgate-mounted spoiler, and an additional spoiler stretching from the roof.

Since it has a coupe-like roofline, the vehicle's more aerodynamic looks and fluidity are heightened to give it improved airflow. Meanwhile, the signature orange hue dubbed “Magma” makes the GV80 Coupe Concept pop. According to Luc Donckerwolke, Group Chief Creative Officer, “the color symbolizes the self-confident and passionate attitude of Korea. There is a quiet, efficient, disciplined and humble first impression soon contrasted by a high-performing and extroverted attitude”.

While the exterior of the concept is all about elegance and beauty, the interior is all about the business. Sure, it gets high-quality Nappa leather and suede, plaid double stitching, orange piping, and carbon fiber weaves on the function surfaces. But it's probably the four bucket seats that immediately caught our attention. Not only are the seats eye-catching, to say the least, but they also highlight the vehicle's sportier and more aggressive nature.

Since the vehicle itself is still a concept, we're not entirely sure if the GV80 Coupe Concept will come with bucket seats. But if Genesis is serious about the concept previewing a more performance-oriented model, we won't be surprised if the GV80 Coupe Concept will carry most of its features once Genesis reveals the production version.
