New CATL EV battery can do 400 km after 10-mins charge
CATL's new ShenXing battery can achieve full charge in 15 minutes and deliver a range of 700 kilometers

Most electric vehicles (EVs) take four to six hours to fully recharge. EVs with bigger batteries will take longer, about five to 10 hours. That will soon be a thing of the past after Chinese battery manufacturer and technology company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) released this electrifying bit of news.
Move over lithium-ion, nickel-metal hydride, lead-acid, and ultracapacitors. There is a new battery in town and it is called the ShenXing Superfast Charging Battery. CATL claims it is the world's first LFP (lithium-ion phosphate) battery to support 4C (C being a multiplier) charging, which means it achieves a full charge in just 15 minutes. The company further claims that plugging it in for just 10 minutes gives it a 400-kilometer range.

One of the best features of the ShenXing Battery is the use of LFP. It costs less to produce and has lower energy density, but has improved performance at low temperatures, which lets it achieve 80% charge in 30 minutes even at temperatures as low as -10°C.
The maximum range of a fully charged ShenXing Battery is 700 kilometers.

You have good reason to get excited. According to CATL, mass production of the ShenXing Battery starts at the end of this year and will be on the market by 2024.
Another notable battery from CATL is the Qilin. It is already available in the Zeekr 001 and gives it a range of over 1,000 kilometers.
If these advancements in battery technology make it to the next batch of EVs and hybrids, it may sway a bigger chunk of the traditional ICE car buyers to switch to new energy vehicles.
