More than 23,000 Ferraris recalled in the US for brake issue

Ferrari is not having a good time on and off the track. From engine issues of their Formula One car, they are now facing a third recall in just nine months – spanning two continents and more than two decades' worth of models.

The initial recall of more than 5,000 cars in November 2021 was for the 458 and 488. There was an issue with the Bosch-made master cylinder or brake booster assembly. It could malfunction and cause the vehicle to lose braking power. The worst part, Ferrari and Bosch do not know what is causing the problem.

In April 2022, a recall was announced in China, which included the 458 Italia, 458 Speciale, 458 Speciale A, 458 Spider, 488 GTB, and 488 Spider series models. This time, it was about the Bosch-supplied brake reservoir fluid cap that may not vent properly, which could create a vacuum inside the brake fluid reservoir.

Four days ago, Ferrari posted another recall, and this is their biggest one yet. It is for 23,555 vehicles made since 2005, and it affects the following models:

• 2009-2017 Ferrari California
• 2010-2011 Ferrari 612
• 2012-2016 Ferrari FF
• 2013-2017 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

• 2015-2017 Ferrari California T
• 2016 Ferrari F60 America
• 2017 Ferrari F12 TDF
• 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta
• 2017-2020 Ferrari GTC4 Lusso
• 2018-2020 Ferrari GTC4 T
• 2018-2022 Ferrari Portofino
• 2018-2022 Ferrari 812
• 2019-2020 Ferrari 488 Pista
• 2020-2022 Ferrari F8 Spider
• 2020-2022 Ferrari F8 Tributo
• 2021-2022 Ferrari Roma

The problem is the same one affecting vehicles in China, the Bosch-supplied brake reservoir fluid cap that may cause brake fluid to leak and lead to total brake failure.

In the US, Ferrari plans to send emails to owners starting in September 2022. If you imported a Ferrari or bought one within the years indicated above, it is best to contact them and check to make sure your vehicle is not affected.
