Month-long EDSA Timog Flyover SB closure begins June 25

Last week, AutoIndustriya.com reported that the EDSA Timog Flyover Southbound would be closed to traffic for 1 week. According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), they had to temporarily close the two lanes of the flyover in order to conduct immediate repairs.

Eventually, however, the DPWH and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) partially reopened the flyover to private vehicles, as well as EDSA Carousel buses in order to alleviate heavy traffic. Unfortunately, the flyover will once again be temporarily closed to all types of vehicles, including buses.

But instead of closing it for just one week as originally intended, the southbound direction of the flyover will not be accessible for an entire month. This was confirmed by MMDA Chairman Romando Artes who said that the temporary closure will help hasten the repair works being done by the DPWH.

The DPWH also mentioned that the full closure of the flyover is due to the repairs that will be done manually without the use of heavy equipment. Moreover, the concrete that they will use to repair the large potholes and cracks will need to be cured for 7 days to ensure the infrastructure will be sturdy for everyday use.

The EDSA Timog Flyover Southbound will be closed to all vehicles starting June 25 at 6:00 AM. The MMDA has advised motorists to brace for heavy traffic in the area. In addition, they have advised motorists to take the service road or take Scout Borromeo Street, Eugenio Lopez Drive, and other Mabuhay Lanes.

With the flyover set to be closed later this week, EDSA motorists heading towards Cubao and beyond will have to think of other ways in order to get to their destinations.
