MMDA sets EDSA North/West Avenue lane closures starting Feb 1

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced temporary lane closures along the EDSA–North Avenue and EDSA–West Avenue sections of EDSA to accommodate MRT-7 girder launching activities. These activities will begin on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

“Minimal traffic is expected during the partial closure of portions of EDSA during nighttime, but a big impact on traffic is expected during full closure to give way to the construction activities,” said MMDA Chairman, Atty. Don Artes.

Temporary nighttime lane closures along EDSA will be implemented from February to May to accommodate MRT-7 girder launching and related works.

From February 1 to 10, EDSA northbound will be fully closed from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. for the installation of Tower Support No. 2, followed by similar closures from February 11 to 21 for the lifting of Module 4.1. The closure will shift to the EDSA southbound from February 22 to 26 for the installation of Tower Support No. 3.

Further girder lifting activities are scheduled along EDSA northbound from February 27 to March 10 for Module 4.2, and along EDSA southbound from March 11 to 23 for Module 5.0. During these periods, four lanes will reopen during daytime hours, with zipper lanes and alternate routes in place.

The EDSA–West Avenue intersection will be fully closed from March 24 to April 20 for the lifting of Modules 6, 7, and 8, while the main EDSA northbound and southbound lanes will remain open. No closures are scheduled during punchlisting works from April 21 to 29.

Nighttime closures will resume from April 29 to May 19 for the dismantling of tower supports and road restoration. The DOTr-Project Management Office (DOTr-PMO) said all works will be done at night to minimize disruption, with full lane reopening expected by mid-May.

The temporary lane closures are intended to ensure the safety of the motoring public, as heavy equipment and machinery will be used to lift steel superstructure components connecting the MRT-7 North EDSA turnback track along West Avenue.
