MMDA: Expect heavy traffic in Ortigas Center next week due to ADB meet

Heads up to motorists who work or live in Ortigas Center. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that the public should expect traffic disruptions on several major roads and side streets next week for the 55th Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meeting.

MMDA Acting Chairman Carlo Dimayuga III shared that at least 300 delegates from the ADB member economies are expected to join the event at the ADB Headquarters located in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City from September 26 to September 30, 2022.

Dimayuga said that no roads will be closed during the 5-day meeting. However, motorists can expect traffic disruptions in the Ortigas area and other affected routes. Moreover, occasional traffic disruptions may also happen along EDSA from Magallanes to Ortigas, Julia Vargas Avenue, ADB Avenue, San Miguel Avenue, Guadix Drive, Bank Drive, and Saint Francis Street.

“An ADB Special Lane along Saint Francis and Bank Drive will be set up to give way to the delegates’ convoy on Sept. 28 and 29,” said Dimayuga.

On EDSA, the delegates' convoy may use the inner lane or the EDSA Busway from Guadalupe to Ortigas in order to reach ADB HQ faster.

Around 500 MMDA personnel led by members of the Task Force Traffic Management will be deployed along the ADB-dedicated routes to allow for the seamless movement of the delegates from the airport to the hotels, venues, and other engagement areas at the least inconvenience to the public.

“MMDA traffic enforcers will be deployed along the route of the convoy transporting the delegates. MMDA Road Emergency Group, in coordination with the Office of the Civil Defense, Department of Health, Bureau of Fire Protection, will also be on standby to provide emergency assistance,” added Dimayuga.

Traffic personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), LGUs from Mandaluyong and Pasig, and security forces of the Ortigas Center will also help manage traffic along the ADB routes.
