Mitsubishi's new B-SUV will be called Destinator?

We've already seen several teaser images of Mitsubishi's upcoming B-SUV when the automaker released the first pictures and details last May. It's set to be revealed in August at the 39th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show and will serve as the brand's latest SUV offering.

While we already know that it will be essentially the production version of the XFC Concept, the automaker has yet to officially call it by its production name. That means we'll have to wait for Mitsubishi to reveal its new name at the annual auto show. Unfortunately for the automaker, the SUV's supposed name has just been leaked.

According to a report by CNN Indonesia, the soon-to-be-revealed Mitsubishi SUV will reportedly be called “Destinator”. The alleged name circulated around social media after it was registered at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights with number IDM001069857 on March 30, 2023.

More importantly, the registrant of the Destinator name is apparently Mitsubishi Jidosha Kogyo Kabishiki Kaisha which is the full name of the automaker. In addition, the purported name is classified under goods related to various components of a four-wheeled vehicle.

While Mitsubishi has yet to comment on whether its new SUV will be called the Destinator, we couldn't help but check if it's also registered in the Philippines. After a quick search at the World Intellectual Property Organization's (WIPO) Global Brand Database, the Destinator name is in fact registered in the country as well. It has been registered in the Philippines since October 13, 2022. And just like in Indonesia, the name of the applicant for the Destinator name in the Philippines is Mitsubishi Jidosha Kogyo Kabishiki Kaisha.

With the big reveal still over a month away, the only thing we can do for now is to patiently wait and hope that more leaks and new information come out. So far, the B-SUV will have a ground clearance of 222mm, four drive modes (Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud), and Active Yaw Control which is also present in the Xpander Cross.

With the press launch set on August 10, 2023, we'll be keeping a close eye on what Mitsubishi will share before the covers are taken off.
