Mitsubishi Delica D:5 AXCR is the coolest support vehicle

Don't try to adjust your screens. What you're seeing right now is a highly-modified Mitsubishi Delica D:5, and boy does it look badass. But don't expect it to be competing at this year's Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) as the all-new Triton Strada will still be the one defending Mitsubishi's crown.

Instead, the Delica D:5 will serve as support vehicles for Team Mitsubishi Ralliart during the 2023 AXCR. More importantly, the tricked-out MPV also serves to celebrate the Delica's 55th anniversary.

A total of four Delica D:5 support vehicles will join Team Mitsubishi Ralliart and all have the features offered by the regular model. These include the strong body with its rib bone frame and the electronically controlled 4WD system, which provides optimal maneuverability and road handling in any weather or under tough road conditions.

But in order to really maximize its capability off the beaten path during the entirety of the 2023 AXCR, it has been upgraded with all-terrain Yokohama Rubber tires and WORK aluminum wheels painted black. It also gets auxiliary lights and a roof rack to carry additional equipment during the rally race. The chassis was also given attention as both the front and rear suspension have been tuned by JAOS to handle the rough terrain.

And in case you haven't noticed yet, the Delica D:5 support vehicles will also bear the red and black motifs as the rally-ready pickup truck. Combined with the MPV's daring looks and go-anywhere capability, the Delica D:5 support vehicles are ready for the road less traveled.

The automaker did not mention any powertrain changes for the Delica D:5 support vehicles. That means we can expect them to be powered by the 2.2-liter MIVEC turbo-diesel engine that puts out 177 PS and 380 Nm of torque. Power goes to an 8-speed automatic transmission. For extra capability off-road, the 4WD system benefits from a locking differential for improved traction off the beaten path.

While the all-new Triton Strada is already a capable beast to take on this year's AXCR, it pays to have support vehicles at the ready in case something goes wrong. And what better vehicle for Mitsubishi to have during the race than one of its own?
