MIAS 2024: GAC Emkoo Hybrid debuts in PH with 300 Nm of torque
Astara Philippines brings the 2024 GAC Emkoo Hybrid at this year's Manila International Auto Show

It might have taken some time, but GAC Motor distributor Astara Philippines has entered the electrified arena. This comes after the automaker revealed the Emkoo Hybrid at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).

Serving as the brand’s first hybrid model for the Philippine market, the 2024 Emkoo Hybrid features the same concept-like styling as the turbocharged model but benefits from an electrified powertrain.

Beginning with the most important aspect of the vehicle, the Emkoo Hybrid comes with a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine that’s assisted by an electric motor. The engine alone makes a decent 140 PS at 6000 rpm and 180 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. With the help of the motor, however, the Emkoo Hybrid has a total system output of 238 PS and 300 Nm of torque.
Compared to the 1.5-liter turbocharged version which already makes an impressive 177 PS and 270 Nm of torque, the Emkoo Hybrid is more powerful by 61 PS and puts out an extra 30 Nm of pull. All of that power is then sent to a 2-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).

Style-wise, the Emkoo Hybrid looks the same as the regular turbocharged variant save for some subtle changes here and there. These include the hybrid badges and the unique alloy wheels that are specific only to the Emkoo Hybrid. Everything else has been carried over including the stylish LED headlights, the distinct front grille, sharp LED taillights, and the concept-like shape of the vehicle.

Hop inside and the Emkoo Hybrid also shares most of the regular crossover’s interior design. These include the flat-bottom steering wheel, the digital instrument cluster, the tablet-inspired touchscreen system, the high-tech center console, and the full leather upholstery.
The GAC Emkoo Hybrid will officially go on sale this June. No official pricing has been announced yet.
