MIAS 2023: Ioniq 6 is Hyundai's next EV in PH

After the introduction of the Ioniq 5 at last year's PIMS, Hyundai Motor Philippines is wasting no time in previewing its next all-electric model in the country.

Say “annyeong” to the Hyundai Ioniq 6. The longer, and more streamlined model in the Korean brand's dedicated all-electric lineup.

Like the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 is underpinned by the bespoke Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture that proves to be a step ahead in terms of fast charging capabilities and extended EV range.

With the Ioniq 6 having an ultra-low drag coefficient, the streamliner promises to be one of the most energy-efficient EVs in the market. Featuring pixel patterns on its LED light strips both front and back plus large 18-inch wheels, the Ioniq 6 would sit right at home in the Cyberpunk video game.

Inside, warm neon glows welcome the Ioniq 6's occupants to a cabin made from sustainable materials, which include eco-processed leather, recycled PET fabrics for the seats, and bio TPO skin for the dashboard. In addition, the paint is derived from vegetable oils while the carpet is made from recycled fish nets.

Hyundai has put together two 12-inch screens for the infotainment and instrument clusters, while the climate control buttons remain with tactile switches as well as the center gear console.

Similar to the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 also has a standard and long-range model. The former has a 53 kWh battery that powers a 151 PS, 350 Nm electric motor driving the rear wheels. Meanwhile, the long-range model has a bigger 77.4 kWh battery pack that provides juice to either a single or dual motor setup. The long-range RWD puts out 228 PS and 350 Nm of torque, while the AWD long-range is more powerful at 325 PS and 605 Nm. There's no word yet as to what exact variant the PH market will get.

In terms of range using the WLTP cycle, the Ioniq 6's streamlined body means it can reach up to 614 km in the long-range RWD version. Since the EV has an 800V architecture, the batteries can be charged from 10 to 80% in as quick as 18 minutes. It also has the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology that can power up other electronic devices.

With its impressive design and features to boot, the Ioniq 6 was honored by World Car Awards as the 2023 World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car Design of the Year.

Hyundai Motor Philippines plans to launch the Ioniq 6 later this year. In addition, the automaker shared that they plan to sell it for PHP 4 million. You can check out the award-winning EV from April 13 to 16 at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show.
