MG7 revealed as love letter to sport sedans

The MG7 has been released in China and, oh boy what a looker it is. Being the largest MG sedan to date, the car is part of the automaker's “Black Label” series. The Black Label line will feature a high-end, luxurious, and sporty range of vehicles that will have black trim and Black MG badging as standard.

The all-new MG7 measures 4,884mm in length, 1,889mm in width, and 1,447mm in height, putting this near the size of other sporty midsize four-doors. Style-wise, its fastback styling gives the sedan an Audi- and BMW-like appearance thanks to its flowing lines, deep creases, and muscular curves.

There are two rumored versions of the sedan coming out. The base model 300 VTGI will be powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 185 PS and 300 Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed DCT. The higher-end 405 VTGI Trophy version will feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine mated with a 9-speed ZF automatic gearbox and will produce 257 PS with 405 Nm of power. MG is also rumored to be developing plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions and will release them after their ICE counterparts.

With 19 to 20-inch wheels, a ducktail spoiler, wide fenders, and quadruple exhaust, MG is pouring on the sportiness that they want to feature that fastback look that Peugeot also did with their new 408. This MG is sleeker, curvier, and more luxurious than the lion’s offering with the 7’s long bonnet, large wide grille, and racing-inspired design.

There is no news yet about the dash and interiors but we are sure it’s gonna be packed with driver tech and luxurious leather finishes. MG is marketing itself in the EU as an all-electric car company so this China release may just stay in the People’s Republic. We are hoping though that MG locally brings this in as, like what we said earlier, it is a pretty good looker and may even help revive the love for sedans on our Philippine streets.
