Mercedes-Benz reveals 2024 E-Class Estate with electrified engines

Whoever said wagons (also known as estates) are boring clearly has been hiding under a rock for the last 30 years or simply disconnected from the rest of the online world.

From the Audi RS 6 to the Volvo V60 and every brand in between, there is a wagon out there that will suit every Daddy or soccer Mommy’s taste, budget, and preference. Today that list gets a new addition.

Mercedes-Benz unveils the all-new 2024 E-Class Estate. It has been stretched for more space, sliced for better styling and higher aero efficiency, and finally decked with everything nice, including new electrified powertrains.

The body of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate gets a more dynamically designed roofline compared to its predecessor. It is wider by 28 mm to increase elbow room by as much as 1,519 mm, while the goes up by 22 mm to 2961 mm. There is a high-gloss black panel-like surface connecting the radiator grille with the headlamps that is visually reminiscent of the Mercedes-EQ models.

Like all modern vehicles, the cabin of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate is loaded with the latest tech and connectivity equipment. On the dashboard is a high-resolution driver display in the driver's field of vision. Buyers can opt for two infotainment systems, BUX multimedia system Premium, and the optional MBUX multimedia system Premium Plus. The latter comes with an MBUX Superscreen that extends from the A-pillar on the passenger side to the central display. The operating system allows the installation of third-party apps, including TikTok, Angry Birds, and even Webex and Zoom. Passengers can rest easy knowing the cabin also offers an anti-travel sickness program called ‘Energizing Comfort.’ It comes with an Energizing Coach that leads passengers through breathing exercises to alleviate negative symptoms. Automatic air vents can also be set to the desired angle for each seat via Digital Vent Control.

The drive comes from several power sources, a 2.0-liter gasoline engine (E200) with 204 PS, 320 Nm of torque, and a diesel variant using a 2.0-liter engine (E220D) with 197 PS and 440 Nm of torque. Both feature an integrated starter generator, which makes them mild hybrids. The 48-volt onboard electrical system gives it an additional 23 PS and an extra 205 Nm of boost torque. A more powerful trim, the E300e has a 2.0-liter gas engine with a more powerful motor that lets it make 312 PS and 550 Nm of torque. Another electrified six-cylinder model is under development.

A new Agility Control suspension and single-chamber air suspension on the rear axle are standard. The latter features a compact design, maintains ride comfort even with a full load on board, and ensures that the vehicle remains horizontal even when laden. The all-around AIRMATIC air suspension with ADS+ continuously adjustable damping is available as an option.

By the looks of it, this is the most advanced, spacious, and sportiest E-Class Estate yet. The only question that remains is when will we get it in the PH? Watch this space for future updates.
