Meralco Avenue fronting Estancia will be closed until 2028

Last week, AutoIndustriya.com reported that a portion of Meralco Avenue in front of Estancia at Captial Commons will be closed starting October 3, 2022. This is to give way to the construction of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP), one of the government's major infrastructure projects.

There was no clear timeline yet for when the road will be reopened to the public given the project's huge undertaking. But now, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced that the aforementioned section of Meralco Avenue will be reopened to traffic come 2028.

According to the DOTr, the section of the avenue will serve as the project's access point to the subway's Shaw Boulevard section. The agency has advised taking alternate routes once the portion of Meralco Avenue is closed next month.

For Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) – from Meralco Avenue going to Shaw Boulevard will be rerouted to Captain Henry Javier Street to Danny Floro Street and vice versa.

Modernized Jeepneys – from Meralco Avenue going to Shaw Boulevard will be rerouted to take Dona Julia Vargas Avenue to San Miguel Avenue and vice versa

UV Express Vehicles – from Meralco Avenue going to Shaw Boulevard will be rerouted to Dona Julia Vargas Avenue to San Miguel and vice versa

Private vehicles – all available alternate routes will be accessible

Once completed and fully operational, the MMSP will span a total of 33 kilometers and will stretch from Valenzuela City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City. It will also reduce travel time from Quezon City and NAIA from 1 hour and 10 minutes to just 35 minutes. More importantly, it's estimated that the subway will service up to 370,000 passengers daily.

With the portion of Meralco Avenue set to be closed next month, those who frequently drive along that road will have to take different routes in order to get to their destinations.
