Mazda's biggest crossover will be 2024 CX-90

Mazda just can’t seem to get enough of crossovers. After revealing the CX-50 last year and debuting the CX-60 earlier this year, the automaker will be launching its newest and biggest crossover yet, the CX-90.

It’s set to make its official debut in January 2023 and will be a three-row model. Mazda claims it will sit on the company’s all-new large platform and shall serve as its newest flagship vehicle. Last but not least, the CX-90 will be wider, longer, and have more aggressive proportions than any current Mazda vehicle.

Another important highlight that Mazda previewed for the CX-90 is its powertrain. While the automaker has yet to fully disclose its output figures, Mazda did say that it will have an inline-six.

That’s right, just like the CX-60, the flagship CX-90 will be powered by Mazda’s new six-cylinder engine. That means it could get a more powerful version of the 3.0-liter SkyActiv-X inline-six motor. Another likely powertrain is the 3.3-liter SkyActiv-D turbo-diesel which is capable of producing up to 254 PS and 550 Nm of torque.

Since the CX-90 is billed as a 2024 model-year vehicle, we can expect it to be available to customers sometime in Q2 or Q3 of next year. Meanwhile, the reveal slated for January 2023 will likely serve as a means to showcase the vehicle before production officially begins.

With the CX-9 currently serving as Mazda Philippines’ flagship vehicle in the country, could the CX-90 actually replace it if ever the automaker brings it here? For now, all we can do is wait patiently wait before the CX-90 is revealed in January of next year.
