Maserati calls MC20 Cabrio 'Cielo'
Instead of MC20 Cabrio, Maserati's latest droptop will be called MC20 Cielo

Four months ago, Maserati gave us a glimpse of the droptop version of its flagship MC20 super sports car. At the time, the Italian automaker simply called it the MC20 Cabrio. While there was nothing wrong with its name, we felt that its name was rather too simple.
Luckily, Maserati has revealed that it will actually have a different name once it's officially revealed. Instead of being called the MC20 Cabrio, it will actually be named the MC20 Cielo. But what is the significance of the Cielo name?

According to Maserati, the word 'Cielo' means sky in Italian. Since the model is devoted to delivering open-top motoring pleasure in the great outdoors, the name suits the brand's upcoming drop-top super sports car.
Other details about the car are not yet available. But based on the pictures released prior, the MC20 Cielo will likely have a folding metal roof. It will also have a modified roofline and a new engine cover that replaces the see-through cover used in the hardtop version.

Under the hood, expect the MC20 Cielo to be powered by the familiar 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 called Nettuno. Output figures are not yet available, but we won't be surprised if it will have the same figures as the hardtop version which makes 630 PS and 730 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to the wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Expect Maserati to officially launch the MC20 Cielo later this year. Hopefully, by then, Maserati Philippines will also be able to offer both the droptop and coupe versions to interested customers.
