Makati suspends 'coding' only on Holy Thursday, Good Friday

Yesterday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that the modified Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (aka the number coding scheme) is suspended starting today, April 12.

That means from Holy Tuesday until Good Friday, motorists need not worry about violating the number coding scheme that runs from 5:00 PM in the afternoon until 8:00 PM in the evening. But what about the city of Makati which reverted back to its normal number coding scheme in March 2022?

In a recent Facebook post, the city government announced that the number coding scheme will remain in effect until Holy Wednesday. This means vehicles with license plates ending in 3 and 4, as well as 5 and 6, are strictly prohibited from entering Makati City. However, those passing through Makati via EDSA will not be apprehended.

Makati will only suspend the number coding scheme from April 14 (Holy Thursday) until April 15 (Good Friday). This is good news for motorists with vehicles that have license plates ending in 7 and 8, as well as 9 and 0. Come April 18, Makati will resume implementing its own number coding.

If you're planning to head to Makati before Holy Thursday, better make sure you're not driving a coded vehicle. Otherwise, a hefty fine awaits would-be violators.
