LTO: Over 1.7K motorists were apprehended in NCR last May

Erring motorists better think twice about committing traffic violations while driving in Metro Manila. This comes after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced recently that they have caught 1,737 motorists for various traffic citations.

According to LTO National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) Regional Director Roque Verzosa III, the motorists were apprehended by field personnel from the LTO, the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways), and the PNP (Philippine National Police).

“In total, the number of violations committed is 1,737, while the total apprehensions/TOP (Temporary Operator's Permit) [issued were] 1,563,” said Verzosa.

He added that most apprehensions were due to violations of Republic Act (RA) 4136 or the Land Transportation And Traffic Code R.A 8750 or the failure to wear a seatbelt. R.A 10054 or failure to wear a motorcycle helmet, and R.A 10666, or the Children's Safety on Motorcycles Act.

Of the 420 motorists apprehended due to RA 4136, Verzosa added that the majority were issued tickets for violations such as operating a motor vehicle with defective accessories, disregarding traffic signs, failing to carry their OR/CR, using an unregistered motor vehicle, reckless driving, among others.

On the other hand, a total of 255 motorists were apprehended for failing to wear a seatbelt, 57 for failing to wear a helmet, and 253 motorists were educated by traffic enforcers on the importance of following traffic laws.

“Asahan ninyo na ang LTO-NCR ay patuloy na ipapatupad ang mga batas na ito para na rin masiguro ang kaligtasan ng ating mga motorista,” added Verzosa.

Aside from LTO apprehensions, he said DPWH enforcers deputized by the LTO-NCR apprehended a total of 781 drivers for violating the anti-overloading law. Meanwhile, PNP personnel apprehended 97 motorists for failing to wear a motorcycle helmet, eight for failing to wear a seatbelt, and 119 other violations.
