LTO mulls nationwide implementation of No plate, No travel

Last week, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced its plan to implement the “No plate, No Travel” policy on July 1, 2024, specific to tricycles in Quezon City. This is after the agency successfully turned over 3,000 license plates in backlog for tricycle drivers in the city.

According to LTO, the upcoming “No plate, No travel” policy on tricycles in QC will serve as a pilot run for the eventual nationwide implementation of the policy – specific to 4-wheel vehicles.

“We appeal to car dealerships to distribute the license plates to their clients the soonest possible time since there are no more backlogs to the license plates of four-wheel vehicles,” said LTO Assistant Secretary, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II.

The LTO said that the agency was able to address the backlog on license plates for four-wheel vehicles early in 2024 since the agency was able to produce 1 million license plates every month in the later months of 2023.

“We also extend the same appeal to the motor vehicle owners. They must claim their license plates from their respective dealers and immediately install them to their vehicles,” added Mendoza.

The LTO is now coordinating with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on the planning and nationwide implementation of the “No Plate, No Travel” policy.
